Looking back, assessing and moving on: the tenth edition is taking shape

Cristóbal-Ascencio

Nine editions go a long way and at Art Photo Bcn we are planning a tenth edition characterised by celebration, consolidating Barcelona’s position on the photographic circuit. An edition in which the authors of that first viewing will be present in a special session that will want to revive the spirit of the first one without forgetting the path followed to make the appointment with photography grow. Looking back, evaluating and continuing to build a celebration with the image as the centre of attraction to understand our moment without forgetting how it began, thanking those who support us year after year and make our work possible. A festival that will focus on relationships through photography as a means of bringing together a living and active community of which we are a part.

The tenth edition will take place from 26 to 29 October at Disseny Hub Barcelona as the central venue for the second year running. In the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Poble Nou, you will be able to enjoy the latest photography in different formats and with many novelties. For the second year, the fair will also be organised in a solo project format curated by Vicenç Boned, collector and connoisseur of the medium. A great addition to our team that gave very good results in the previous edition and that this year is complemented by the work of Moritz Neumüller, who will coordinate the collectors’ programme to attract to Barcelona a specialised public interested in the acquisition and creation of collections marked by the photographic component. In the photobook section we welcome Ana Benavent, one of the founders of Can Grapes and a key player in Barcelona’s photographic circuit from her experience as a teacher and photographer, who joins our team to select the occupants of the 18 tables for publishers that will make up the photobook market.

The photography fair and the photobook market will be the pillars of the event and the calls for participation are open until full capacity is reached. Both curators of these sections are already receiving the proposals and are available to answer any questions that may arise and to accompany participants and the public throughout the process. We also welcome Elena Aristoy, in charge of press relations, who will contribute her transversal vision in cultural actions and her experience in musical and gastronomic events, enriching the photographic event.

Once again this year, we are opening up the call for viewings aimed at photographers. In addition, Paolo Maistri has rejoined the selection committee, which together with Arianna Rinaldo, Jesús Micó, Gonzalo Golpe, Simona Rota, Miren Pastor and Isabel Lazaro, will be in charge of choosing the 8 finalist projects for this edition. At the viewing session that will take place during the festival, the prizes will be decided and the winning project, which in addition to being the image of the next edition, will receive a 2,000€. The deadline is May 6th, so don’t miss out!

Art Photo Bcn is a great opportunity to share, enjoy and discover the latest photography. A medium so full of nuances, interesting approaches and media such as the project Las flores mueren dos veces by Cristóbal Ascencio, winner of the previous edition, who will be the protagonist of the tenth edition’s graphics. A project that reflects on human relationships and focuses on them beyond the passage of time and presence itself, an aspect that the festival itself wants to reflect by applying his work to this year’s graphics.

The tenth edition offers us new opportunities, are you ready to participate?
