Art Photo Bcn comes back in spring
After a tenth edition marked by celebration and appreciation, Art Photo Bcn is restarting the machinery for a new date with photography in 2024. A new meeting point with the image as its epicentre and development, fostering the much-needed relationships in the art circuit and activating a community in continuous growth.
For the eleventh edition Art Photo Bcn returns to spring, the place in the calendar that gave it its meaning and beginning in 2014 and which aims to revive the spirit of the Primavera Fotográfica in Barcelona through diverse activities that promote the importance of photography and the image in the current circuit. The key dates will be from 6 to 9 June and the central venue, for the third year the Disseny Hub Barcelona, this time in room A with more space and more direct and visible access. The main part of an edition that aims to consolidate its fair, photobook market and portfolio review, as well as an interesting programme of open activities to promote knowledge of the photographic circuit, will take place at this central venue.
The fair, photobook market and collector’s programme will once again be in the hands of Vicenç Boned, Ana Benavent and Moritz Neumüller respectively. A cohesive team of transversal connoisseurs of the photographic medium who will once again contribute their professional vision to this year’s event. The photography fair and the photobook market will be the mainstays of the event and the calls to participate are open until full capacity is reached. Both curators of these sections are already receiving the proposals and are available to answer any questions that may arise and to accompany participants and the public throughout the process.
The call for the review of portfolios is also open. Once again this year, the selection committee is made up of a multifaceted group of personalities who repeat, with Arianna Rinaldo, Jesús Micó, Gonzalo Golpe, Simona Rota, Paolo Maistri, Miren Pastor and Isabel Lazaro. They will be in charge of choosing the 8 finalist projects of this eleventh edition. The prizes and the winning project, which in addition to being the image of the next edition will receive a €2,000 fee, will be decided at the review session that will take place during the festival. The deadline is 10 March, don’t miss it!
Art Photo Bcn is a great opportunity to share, enjoy and discover the latest photography. A medium that aims to awaken emotions through the voice of the other, of the person who focuses and shoots, narrating their own world with images as poetic testimony. This is the vision offered by Rita Puig-Serra, the winner of the tenth edition of the festival with her Anatomy of an Oyster. Rita takes a journey into the past, a journey backwards to revisit places from her childhood that are necessary to understand her present. In this descent into the depths of remoteness, images of the process of pearl formation accompany photos from the family album, and short texts capture her emotional, physical and family memory. The pearl, which is nothing more than the autobiography of an oyster, is the result of this search that will accompany us from the graphics of the festival, giving prominence to the project and to the voice that refers us to it, that of Rita Puig-Serra and her process of finding, assimilating and, finally, extirpating.
