Galeria Carles Taché, founded and directed since 1986 by Carles Taché (Barcelona, 1947), is located in Carrer Trafalgar, the current epicentre of Barcelona’s galleries. Internationally, it has participated in the most important contemporary art fairs. The gallery regularly collaborates with other national and foreign galleries, institutions, foundations and museums. It also has a long history as an art publisher. Since its inauguration, the gallery has received several awards: the ACCA Award from the Association of Art Critics in 1987 and 2000, the Ciutat de Barcelona Award in 1990, the Freedom Award from the Sarajevo International Peace Centre in 1995, the GAC Award for the gallery’s trajectory in 2013, the Creu de Sant Jordi from the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2016 and the Tendències Award from El Mundo in 2016.

One of the leading names in the Spanish photographic context, Luis Baylón is essentially an urban photographer who finds in the street his natural place of work. Always in black and white, his photographs exude naturalness and the scenes he captures with his camera are neither prepared nor composed, but found at random. Baylón’s images are, as Bernard Plossu argued, direct reality without effects or drama. Throughout his career, Baylón has captured unforgettable images of his travels and urban walks, and has also captured his own vision of Madrid through the countless series he has dedicated to its citizens. In 2000 Baylón was awarded the Photography Prize of the Community of Madrid.
