Valentin Joseph Valette – Francès, d’origen algerià. Autor-fotògraf, estudiant de doctorat en Antropologia Visual. Amb base entre Tunísia, Algèria i França.
Motivat tant per la meva pràctica fotogràfica com pels meus estudis en Humanitats i Ciències Socials, m’interessa l’ús de les arts visuals com a instrument de recerca.
El meu interès pels Móns Àrab i Musulmà, alimentat pels meus estudis de sociologia i ciències polítiques a l’Institut d’Estudis Polítics de Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence, em va portar a unir-me a l’Institut de Recerca per al Desenvolupament a Tunísia (IRD) per al qual vaig produir una pel·lícula de recerca, actualment en edició, i una enquesta sociològica.
En aquest context, des de 2023, Médecins du Monde m’ha encarregat realitzar un projecte fotogràfic sobre el tema de la salut en la migració dels harragas.
Al mateix temps, des de 2021, he estat desenvolupant un projecte fotogràfic a llarg termini «Cendres de la Perla Àrab» sobre el desenvolupament territorial i econòmic al Sultanat d’Oman. Aquest projecte ha estat seleccionat per al Premi Leica Oscar Barnack 2024, el Premi Kolga Tbillisi 2024, el Premi PhMuseum 2024, el Premi Art Photoc Barcelona 2024 i el Festival de Fotografia de Belfast 2024.
A principis de 2024, vaig obtenir finançament per a un projecte de doctorat en antropologia visual titulat «Els Harkis i Algèria: vincles, experiències i circulacions» que es creua amb la sociologia de les migracions, les memòries i els pertinences. Estic afiliat a l’Institut de Recerca sobre el Magrib Contemporani (IRMC) a Tunísia i a l’Institut d’Etnologia i Antropologia Social (IDEAS) de la Universitat d’Aix-Marsella.
Durant diversos anys, he estat dividint el meu temps entre encàrrecs fotogràfics, projectes personals a llarg termini i implicació acadèmica, principalment a França, Algèria i Tunísia.

Valentin Joseph Valette – French, of Algerian origin. Author-photographer, PhD student in Visual Anthropology. Based between Tunisia, Algeria and France.
Driven by both my photographic practice and my studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, I am interested in the use of visual arts as a research instrument.
My interest in the Arab and Muslim Worlds, fueled by my studies in sociology and political science at the Institute of Political Studies of Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence, led me to join the Research Institute for Development in Tunisia (IRD) for which I produced a research film, currently in editing, and a sociological survey.
In this context, since 2023, I have been commissioned by Médecins du Monde to carry out a photographic project on the theme of health in the migration of harragas.
At the same time, since 2021, I have been developing a long-term photographic project «Ashes of the Arabian’s Pearl» on territorial development and economic development in the Sultanate of Oman. This project has been shortlisted for the Leica Oscar Barnack Award 2024, the Kolga Tbillisi Award 2024, the PhMuseum Award 2024, Art Photoc Barcelona Award 2024 and Belfast Photo Festival 2024.
In early 2024, I obtained funding for a doctoral project in visual anthropology entitled «The Harkis and Algeria: links, experiences, and circulations» which intersects with the sociology of migrations, memories, and belongings. I am affiliated with the Research Institute on Contemporary Maghreb (IRMC) in Tunisia and the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology (IDEAS) at Aix-Marseille University.
For several years, I have been dividing my time between photographic commissions, long-term personal projects, and academic involvement, mainly in France, Algeria and Tunisia.
