We will analyze the evolution of the family album, from its creation to its current function; the modifications in its structure and narrative marked by changes in the definition of family, the forms of self-representation and technological advances. We will review different ways and strategies to transfer the photos from our album to the book format, exploring its narrative potential and relying on the materiality of its pages to achieve it.
Mariela Sancari, an Argentine photographer based in Mexico, is responsible for the FOLIO program at the Mexico Image Center.
She has received numerous awards for her work: selected by the curator Susan Bright to be included in the Ones to Watch 2015 edition of the BJP magazine, she was also named one of the Discoveries of the meeting place of the Biennial FotoFest 2014. Winner of the VI The Yucatan National Visual Arts Biennial 2013 and the 2014 PHotoEspaña Discoveries Award, his work was selected for the XVI Biennial of Photography of the Image Center and received an Honorable Mention at the XI Monterrey FEMSA Biennial. He received an Honorable Mention in the Official Selection Artemergente National Monterrey Biennale 2012.
