For three months, divided into three periods – May and September 2017 and April 2018, the Spanish photographer Carlos Alba lived in Landskrona and worked in his studio, located in the city’s old seed factory. Alba received a grant from Landskrona Foto Residency. This selection was made by curators Christian Caujolle and Jenny Nordquist. Carlos finished his residency with the individual exhibition ‘The Taste Of The Wind’ in the Landskrona Foto 2018 edition.
In the exhibition, supported by the Spanish Embassy in Sweden, Alba combines her work during the residency with images that she has selected from the archives of the Landskrona Museum. Alba investigates a crucial issue, not only for Landskrona, but for the whole world: the change of Europe. Focused on people who have or want to find a place to live other than where they were born. Answer the question with images: What does a home mean? Alba has photographed the Swedish landscape altered by immigration. And he has portrayed people who have come to Landskrona and those who were born here, but are looking for a change in the city.
“Nothing is permanent; change is inevitable. We, as part of a society, should face the potential problems that change can bring about and challenge them. Change should be seen as an opportunity to grow, not only collectively but as an individual. ” Carlos comments.
Carlos Alba is just another immigrant, he was born in Madrid in 1984 but has worked and lived in London for more than 6 years and the last year and a half in Singapore. He is primarily interested in social relationships and the traces we leave behind in relation to time and geographic location. Alba works in several different media, both in photography and video; that have helped you create an international vision for your images. ‘”I am interested in working with the stories of museum residents, objects, artifacts and archives, using them as a tool to address changes and, in particular, integration, with the aim of making the whole process of these projects positive experiences. “‘
