KBr MAPFRE Barcelona

KBr MAPFRE Barcelona

Torre MAPFRE Ronda del Litoral 30, Barcelona

KBr is the Photography Center of the MAPFRE Foundation in Barcelona. Inaugurated in October 2020, it represents a new stage in the Foundation’s dedication to artistic photography, one of its strategic lines of activity that has had a permanent headquarters in the Catalan capital since 2015.

KBr is the symbol for potassium bromide, one of the components of silver bromide, thanks to which it was possible to “reveal” previously reflected images on paper and thus give rise to the appearance of the photograph. The name reflects, on the one hand, the continuity of an institutional trajectory that has paid special attention to the great tradition of the masters of contemporary photography; on the other, the universality of the symbol expresses the dimension of photography as a shared contemporary language and the profound international vocation with which the Center has been conceived.

In its programming, and together with the continuity in the basic lines of the Foundation’s exhibition program, its two exhibition spaces will allow the development of a broader program, collaborate with other Catalan institutions that pay attention to photography and gradually make known, the Foundation’s Photography Collection.
